  • Works on a day-to-day basis with the Medical Staff, Tribal Health Administrator, Nursing Manager, Administrative Services Director and other key staff members with responsibility for assuring that all aspects of patient care are being planned, implemented and evaluated.
  • Provide and manage comprehensive patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
  • Order test for lab and ancillary services to determine cause of patient condition.
  • Supervise mid-level practitioners; may train and supervise medical students and residents engaged in specialty activities and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Participate in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
  • Provide health education to patients and families.
  • Maintain strict department security, confidentiality, and quality to meet professional standards of the department.
  • Act as Lab Director overseeing CLIA-waved lab (will provide training course).
  • Other duties as assigned in course of day-to-day operations in ambulatory clinic.


  • Require graduate from accredited university with MD or DO degree.
  • Require unrestricted MD or DO license, preferably in Internal Medicine or Family Practice, to practice in state of Iowa.
  • Unrestricted DEA license for prescribing purposes.
  • Completion of an approved 3-4 year residency or other accredited training in Family Practice or Internal Medicine, or a combination of such training with appropriate experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and carry out patient care activities in a clinical setting.
  • Prefer excellent leadership and management skills, including demonstrated ability to select, train, develop, mentor, and motivate staff.
  • Able to work effectively with individuals and/or families to assist them in reaching satisfactory solution(s) to health issues.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of walking, standing, some lifting during the performance of normal duties.
  • Experience in managing chronic disease such as diabetes, heart disease, etc.
  • Must pass background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
