DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Behavior Strategist provides leadership and direction at the school level working to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program.  In addition, the Behavior Strategist works directly and assertively with identified students as requiring substantial supplemental behavior intervention and support and works with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance.  Under the supervision of the building principals, the Behavior Strategist will provide diversified strategies and activities specially designed for targeted students.



  • Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents.
  • Facilitate team meetings with the identified student's teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a functional behavioral assessment.
  • Plans, delivers, and assesses professional development in order to develop staff capacity to support student social skills development and interrupt disruptive behavior.
  • Collects and analyzes student behavior data.
  • Supervises behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well-being of the students and staff.
  • Implements the disciplinary procedures of the Meskwaki Settlement School.
  • Supports individual and small groups of students in social skill development.
  • Provides support to students around conflict resolution and peer relationships.
  • Relates with staff, parents and community through positive professional cooperation.
  • Communicates a positive support of the students in their educational and social development.
  • Regularly communicates with staff, students, and families regarding student behavior.
  • Remains current with research, developments, and contemporary interpretations of practices to support positive student behavior and implement tiered interventions systems for behavior.
  • Actively participates at scheduled staff meetings and serves on school committees.
  • Assumes responsibility regularly for conferences with parents.
  • Models and teaches new behavior management skills and strategies for staff when needed.
  • Attends work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Maintains satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assists with other duties as may be assigned.



  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in human services, social work, psychology, education or related field with at least two years' experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in oral and written communication.
  • Skills in leadership, organization, problem-solving and conflict resolution, human relations, assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to deal with a diversity of people.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Previous experience working with students who exhibit chronic behavior struggles.
  • Previous experience in using social skill development curriculums, providing professional development, and working with diverse, high-need students.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and submit a certified driving record for review.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a background investigation.
